A long overdue update: good news, here's hoping

A whole lot has happened since my last post: I received my PhD, started working as a researcher at Edinburgh’s Climate Change Institute, and was awarded two grants to conduct fieldwork in Shetland and Aberdeen. The beauty of allowing two years to lapse in between posts is that I get to celebrate all of the good things that happened in that time span, while sort of burying the rest. I’ve also spent a good part of the past two years playing the academic publishing game, which can be frustrating, disheartening, and LONG, but I’m riding the wave and remain excited about my work, which includes three articles currently under review. I’ve presented at conferences in Finland, London, and California, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time working at ECCI as part of a fantastic team researching net zero targets and energy transitions with industry partners in Scotland. In between, I’ve developed my multimodal skills in film and sound conducting ethnographic work on renewable projects in Shetland and have learned new public engagement skills organizing net zero training in Aberdeen.

In other news, my band, Cape Wrath, has recorded a full-length album that should be out early next year. This was no easy feat, considering our crew consisted of almost a dozen musicians and engineers living in Philadelphia, Rochester, and Edinburgh, but we managed to do it and I’m delighted to know that “Personal Universe” will be out in the world soon.

So, lot’s to celebrate and lots to keep hoping for. Thanks for reading!
